Just bought it because I already had the book for it.Although I use 4 other programs to do my "art"
I haven't found other applications that were difficult to read that could not be adjusted. I've been using PSE for 5 years and use the product daily. I recently bought the version 7 upgrade, have been using version 5. However, be warned that on some installations it may not be readable and there is no way to fix it.
On the Adobe user forums there are comments that others find the interface poor and that there is no way to change it. So if you can get past the user interface, you will probably like the product. I submitted a technical support incident to Adobe, but after 3 days I've received no response. If I can't read the screen, all the great features are pretty irrelevant.
They have selected a gray background and by moving a slider you can vary it from white on gray to black on gray. For me, I never even got to open a photo. I have found no other product that is as good at managing photos. So your mileage may vary.
This makes a great platform for showing photos and videos, and the rest of the time is in use as a TV. I find the new user interface to be completely unreadable. I may have an unusual computer setup however, I have a Sony SXRD 60" TV as my monitor.
Either more information should be expressed before ordering as to the experience of the user, or more information along with photos, should be included especially for the purchasing price. I have had moderate experience with digital photography but, this is so far over my head that I just do not use it. The very small booklet that comes with the program is for the most part, useless.
So far, I have been very pleased with my purchase. This transaction was very prompt and efficient. The product, itself, is useful although extremely detailed and complex to learn.
As someone who loves taking photos but who does not enjoy playing with software, I believe this software comes with more options than I will ever be able to use. Tin-type effects, black and white photos from color, accenting colors (e.g., bluer skies) - I know this is "old hat" to most people, but to me this is cutting edge. Regardless, I am enjoying using Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. I've enjoyed tinkering with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, although I don't have much spare time and it's taken me awhile to get around to learning even a fraction of what Elements 7 has to offer. This is the first photoshoping software I've ever owned, and I'm amazed by the things it can do.
